All-Around Money Saving Tips

All-Around Money Saving TipsAs the new year progresses, you’ve likely gotten on the savings bandwagon. While it’s always in the back of your mind and you know you need to cut spending, it can be really challenging to pull off. Therefore, we have comprised a list of ways you can save in different aspects of your life. From your home to your grocery shopping, here is how you can decrease spending and increase your savings each month. While you focus your efforts on saving, including cutting home expenses, ensure your investment is protected with a customized CT Home Insurance policy.

Save on energy.

A simple door or window caulking and weather stripping can save you a lot of money on energy bills. Next, consider installing a programmable thermostat. Lowering your thermostat by 10 to 15 degrees for eight hours during the day in winter can save 5 percent to 15 percent per year on your heating bill, according to the Department of Energy.

Invest in smart light bulbs. They do cost more than traditional ones but use a third of the energy and can last up to 10 times longer. Lastly, shower and do dishes in cooler water. 130 degrees is plenty to kill bacteria, so try not to crank up the heat.

Slash your grocery bill.

Bring a list with you to the grocery store and pay with cash, it will help you stick to your budget more. Next, shop for a few days out rather than going to the store each day before dinner time. Consider buying items only when they are in season and prevent scouring the inner aisles of the supermarket that only offer processed, unnecessary convenience foods that drain your budget.

Be cautious of your debit card.

Overdraft fees average around $32.74 per transaction that exceeds your available balance. Therefore, scrutinize your statements to ensure you’re not paying any unnecessary fees and charges at the end of the month. Lastly, pay on time! Miss a payment deadline and chances are you’ll wind up paying hefty fines. In fact, if you’re late on one bill with any creditor, your other creditors can legally use that tardy track record to jack up the interest rate they charge you. When you get bills, mark their due date on a calendar or set up automatic payments so you don’t miss deadlines, explains Bankrate.
