CT Boating Safety Two Teens Injured in FairfieldOn Sunday afternoon, two 14-year-old girls were injured it was is suspected to be a tubing accident. The details of the incident are still under investigation. To help to minimize CT Boaters Liability during the summer season, it is vital to practice proper safety procedures and regulations.

The vacationing teens were speculated to have been involved in an accident resulting from the collision of their flotation devices and a large boat. A nearby boater spotted the girls unconscious in the water and immediately contacted emergency responders and waited with the girls until the crew arrived.

According to NBC Connecticut, the teens were quickly stabilized by the emergency crew. Assistant Chief Scott Bisson stated “This emergency was quickly managed due to the practiced and coordinated response from our local police and fire marine partners and support from the Port Security Grant programs that have provided emergency response vessels to local Police and Fire Departments in the region. The quick actions of the private boaters that pulled the girls from the water and called 911 directly impacted the speed and effectiveness of medical care.”

  • Take a Boating Course- Becoming familiar with your boat and how to properly operate and maneuver the vessel can minimize accident risks.
  • Avoid Alcohol- Never boat under the influence-the consequences are treated similarly to a DUI.
  • Life Jackets- Each person aboard should have a life jacket on hand.
  • Use Common Sense- Obey speed limits, stay alert of your surroundings, and steer clear of larger vessels.
