Lower Your Auto Insurance Premiums With These Strategies

Lower Your Auto Insurance Premiums With These StrategiesAuto insurance is a must for all drivers in the United States, but most people don’t know that the cost of this kind of coverage isn’t fixed. There are many different factors that play a role in raising or lowering your overall monthly cost. However, there are plenty of ways in which you can lower your auto insurance premium without the hassle.

Given that automobile expenses are such a high expense, it’s important to make the time and effort to try and reduce them as much as you can, because it is possible. Here are some different ideas on how to do this.

Reduce Coverage on Older Vehicles

If you have an older car and it’s paid for, you may consider cutting out collision coverage if you have it included in your auto insurance. This is the kind of coverage that pays for any damage that you cause to your vehicle, and it can make up a significant portion of your overall insurance cost.

If your car is paid for, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to have this included. Cheap car insurance in Connecticut should be available without collision coverage.

Raise Your Deductible

Auto premium costs can be cut down significantly by raising your overall auto deductible. This is the amount drivers pay out of pocket when they make a claim. You can see a major difference in cost, as the difference between a $250 deductible and a $500 deductible is typically significant. Make sure you go over what you need and decided how much you can afford to spend out of pocket, then you can adjust from there.

Drive Safely

This may seem easier said than done, but driving safely may be out of your control. You can be the safest driver on the road but you can only control so much as to what goes on around you. But driving as safely as you can will show up in your auto insurance premium if you keep your foot off the gas pedal and drive slower, and also stay away from accidents. You can save anywhere between 4-8 percent depending on your location.

Drive Less

Less time on the road means you have less opportunity to get into an accident. If you opt for public transit, carpool, ride-sharing or other modes of transportation, let your auto insurance company know and they may be able to cut you a break on your premium.

Buy a Safe Car or Hybrid

Not everyone can go out and buy a new car or trade what they have in for a hybrid, but these options, if possible, can help you lower your overall premium. Choose a car with added safety features like airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability, and automatic seatbelts. Opting for a hybrid? There are more affordable options today as hybrids become more mass-produced and available for car buyers. These cars, while still a little more costly than regular cars, can help you save money in the long run with less money going toward gas and being able to lower your auto premium.
